Dangers of vitamin B12 deficiency

Vitamin B12 deficiency can occur in all kinds of individuals. It may be of particular concern if you are following a vegan or vegetarian diet, or taking medications that reduce your absorption ability of vitamins. This video looks at what exactly a vitamin B12 deficiency can lead to and the ways in which you can obtain vitamin B12 through your diet or by taking B12 supplements.

This video was created by Demystifying Medicine students Dhruvika Joshi, Prabhjot Khabra, Minahil Jabeen and Vanessa Lombardo.

PdoubleEWdoubleE : everything i need to know in one vid! greatly put together, thanks!
El autor : Great video, it would help a lot if you speak louder or increase the volume somehow, also there's a lot of oportunity for you to make the video simpler and easier to understand. Lots of love, thanks for the vid.
Joyce Kazanjian : For seven years I was experiencing off and on, hands and feet tingling, burning, pain, difficulty walking, extreme fatigue and depression. Countless visits to the ER and Dr. Office, checking for everything but B12. It then started where I had extreme difficulty getting dressed, had trouble feeding myself, could not write or hold a pen. Bending my neck sent electric shocks thru my body. Went to the hospital for MS testing. MRI, spinal tap, brain scan. After more testing, one Dr. checked my B12 level, it was 80. I spent 10 days in the hospital and 10 days in rehab. They were not sure if I would recover. Left untreated, B12 deficiency can cause permanent brain damage. I was lucky, everything reversed. Maybe if B12 METHYLCOBALAMIN were given early on, we might be able to help prevent MS and other brain and nerve related diseases.
If that one Dr. didn't check my B12 level,I would have been misdiagnosed with MS, because the symptoms are the same.
B12 is vital for our health. It helps make DNA & RNA, your red blood cells.
Helps with Depression,Dementia,Sleep Disorders.
Helps with sleep-wake rhythm disorders (Circadian)
Protects &a rebuilds the Myelin sheath covering your nerve fibers.
Slows brain shrinkage up to 80%.
Lowers Homocysteine levels associated with heart disease.
If low levels are left unchecked, brain damage will occur and can become permanent.
Helps with age related macular degeneration.
By supplementing with sublingual Methylcobalmin B12 around 40 or 50 years of age, we could help prevent problems before they start.
Everyone should supplement and maintain blood levels of B12 in the range from 600 to 2000 pg/ml in order to avoid and, if this is the case, help recover from the wide range of problems that result from B12 deficiency or insufficiency. Health care practitioners: this is the first thing you should check for every patient that comes in, independently of their age or condition

Methylcobalamin: This is the neurologically active form of B12. It is technically a `coenzyme` of vitamin B12 and it is almost never prescribed by doctors despite being effective, readily available and inexpensive. It is also available in an injectable form. Degenerative neurological conditions are where methylcobalamin shows its greatest benefits over other cobalamin preparations. Brilliant news for MS’ers! Not only has Methylcobalamin been shown to work in neurologic diseases, it also helps with the elimination of toxic substances in the body.
Sandi Shadbolt : I thought I was dying, before I was diagnosed with Vit B12 deficiency, it felt like my body was shutting down. It was an extreme effort just to walk, I felt absolutely lifeless. Even washing dishes was exerting too much energy. Fortunately I was diagnosed immediately, by my description of the symptoms. Obviously I had to be tested, but my Dr. was correct.
Strangely, shortly before I need a top up of vitamins, I get a craving for cow's milk. As well as extreme fatigue.
Julius Grant Aka Phoenix : I have always been a picky eater so there are a lot of things I wouldn't eat, I am 46 years old now I wouldn't take muti vitamins I just assume I didn't need them. Well since the corvid 19 we have been very busy at my job to the point where wasn't eating all day, a few months ago I started loosing a lot of weight and I started experiencing the numbness in my right foot, about month later it was im both feet and arms and now my whole body has pin and needles. I became deeply depressed always tired couldn't sleep, having outbursts at work with family and friends and last came the headaches and dizziness and let me tell ya'll it's a headache like no headache I have ever had in my life, I thought I had a stroke. On October 8th I seen a doctor he ran some tests and it came back my vitamin b12 was extremely low. So now I am on muti vitamins and vitamin b12. Please don't mess around with your body people you only get the one. Hope this helps anyone who having these issues, thank you and God bless.

Milad Sh : You're a great artist and also a great teacher. thank you so much for all of your works.
rollinstn 93 : DUDE, SERIOUSLY, your videos are the best. Thank you for all the great work, If I could subscribe more than once, I'd do it. You just saved me pages and pages of studyin in a 9 minute long and clear video. Thank you.
Gary Stanton : Another great video. One major cause of B12 deficiency which I was surprised you didn't mention is alcoholism. I will assume this is due to alcohol damaging the illium and preventing adequate absorption. Additionally alcoholism generally goes hand in hand with poor diet/malnutrition which also accounts for the deficiency.
Balys Official : YOU ARE AMAZING! I'm such a visual person and all of this... what you're doing... Everything just stays in my brain after one time of watching! No Kidding! THANKS!
Mike Zimmer : We have been screaming to be heard for my daughter's MS related symptoms, and your video explains so much that we can now take to our deficient doctors. Thank you to taking a very complex issue and explaining in a way that we could learn it. Amazing!!!
