Introduction to Tombow Dual Brush Pens

Terry P : Recently tried these out for the first time for comic illustration. They seem to be very durable under extensive use. I've colored almost 100 illustrations on mixed media paper and they are still going like brand new.
Cin : I love these markers!! They’re really good for my illustrations, I use them to color my works a lot and they blend so nicely and stay so consistent!

They’re not the cheapest by far and have certainly taken me a bit of time to collect a few base tones of all the colors I need. I’m very grateful the 15 marker packs were on sale for half off, cause goodness. Wouldn’t recommend going for every single tone, but definitely try them out if you can! I got the tropical, portrait (skin tone), and celebration packs and a few individual pens: for me those colors are a pretty good variety! I’ve got some really nice pinks and greens. However I am missing a lot of darker and purple tones, which is frustrating, but not unbearable, because they do blend well. They were on sale, but all around for what, around 50 bucks and I don’t have more then 1 purple or orange? That’s kinda eh. And if I didn’t have the sale it would be like 90 something bucks, and that’s not really cool. Regardless of that alone, they are pretty good pens, and I would not say the pens themselves are super super overpriced. You get a good, versatile pen/pens for a high price.

I would say if you’re looking for specific tones and trying to keep it less expensive, get one (or maybe two or three packs if you have cash to burn) you really really like and get the other obscure essential colors you really really need individually. Keep the individually bought ones under 30 bucks and it’s like you’ve bought your own pack minus 5 or 6 markers.

I have very shaky hands so sometimes I have difficulty with the brush work but all around these markers aren’t punishing since if you go over your mistakes quick enough it doesn’t show, which I think is one of the most appealing aspects of these. They’re incredibly clean to work with.

The pigment is really brilliant for water based markers, and because they’re water based, they mix very very well with watercolor pencils! They don’t mix the best with alcohol based markers but they don’t look bad. However, I certainly wouldn’t suggest mixing them with traditional office supplies and mild liners, it looks very blotchy and messy. I recommend if you’re using these for illustrations to put down your color first on a clean sketch and then add the linework, because these do tend to fade the linework quite a bit, as do most markers.
Kim Harbaugh : I have been able to blend my Tombows like Copics using Strathmore smooth Bristol paper for stamped images for card making, I use the colorless blender or the palest color to blend out. They also color and blend beautifully on Vellum! Love my Tombows!
Reneej003 : I got 2 packs of six for about $10.00 each at Walmart, and for expensive they are...definitely worth it. I'm already obsessed with then pens!! Creative ideas come in mind.
TeamRSTechnoPro : These pens are very good and popular water-based brush pens. These are not the cheapest. And these are commonly by modern calligraphy arts and also ,I think for so many journal enthusiasts.

How to Use Tombow Dual Brush Pens to Watercolor

Marco Diaz : Excellent video! So just to be sure, did you used a baby wipe to clean the blending brush?
L F : Will the watercolor direct paper method work the same way if I do it on my smooth bullet journal paper? It seems that the water-colour paper is what allows the direct paper effect to happen!
Pattie Starzynski : Beautiful!
Naomi O'Connor : Does the water brush come with the pack or do you buy it separately
Random Account : I just noticed that this is the brand my friend has. Nice I always ask my friend If I can borrow them so I can use it for school art projects or other stuff

Kill Me so I can Respawn : This is helpful, as I’ve been using the Ohuhu water markers for about year and a half, maybe two, and while they’ve worked amazing for me, some of them are running dry on me. Since I can’t afford to buy a whole new set every time I lose a single colour, I’ve been a bit stressed about finding a solution for this (I use water markers a decent bit, at least three times a week) I’ve heard of Tombows before but never really knew any other artists so I never had a friend to talk with about whether tombows are worth the investment. After this i definitely plan on starting a collection of Tombows, they’re nibs are much nicer for my preferences (Ohuhu’s nibs literally shred themselves to pieces over time even if your very light of hand) thank you for such an upfront review, it’s so stress-relieving to have individual replacements for my dead markers
Dina baksh : Heya, I enjoyed the video. But whats your personal preference with everything? And would they be ideal for calligraphy?
KeiSou Kitty : Do you use them for coloring if so do they bleed through the page?
H0riZn : Honestly....you are very honest in this video. Like...honestly.
Tami : Ich würde mir so gerne tombows kaufen aber die sind so unglaublich teuer
