Toshiba Satellite Pro C850 Repair and Upgrade Guide

A tear-down of a Toshiba Satellite Pro C850 laptop with a faulty wireless card.

This process gives access to the hard drive, RAM, processor, cooling components and wireless card, all of which can be replaced or upgraded.
David Tordrup : Very useful! Do you know a good reference database for finding out which CPU's will work in a particular model? I have the C850-10U which seems to have the FCPGA988 socket, but I'm having a very hard time finding out which other CPU's will fit and work. According to http://www.lapspecs.com/detail/toshiba+satellite+c850-c855 Intel i5-2450M might work - but it's a real jungle to find this information!
B. Hagedash : My Toshiba gave a "dire heating issues turn off immediately to avoid damage" message and I then spent an hour trying to remove the damn backplate. Ended up using a vacuum cleaner on all external air vents and the issue appears to have gone away but I'm glad to know how to get into it for the next time something goes wrong.

Pindiggley : I have this laptop. The HDD is right there, huh? Nice that Toshiba made it so you could upgrade the RAM and HDD relatively easily. I should look at putting an SSD or SSHD in it.
Brian Harcott : hi great video thanks I will subscribe! I have a question though. The wifi card has a white cable that attaches to it. When I opened up my laptop, I noticed that there is also a lose black cable, similar to the white cable on the wifi card. This cable goes into the hinge. What is it and why is it disconnected?
