The time has come. What was once just a replacement for big black frisbees of sprially wavey soundy sounds has matured into a versatile, ubiquitous data storage solution. Would you look at that, progress on a disc! But that wasn’t all; many colors of books were published (neato, wouldn’t ya say?) and the disc went from a-thing-you-buy-with-stuff-on-it to a disc that you can put your VERY OWN stuff on it! Radical! And here’s some of that story.

Smedis2 : "A CD-R is a pirate's favorite CD" is something that only gets more brilliant the more you think about it.
Cullen Craft : This channel is so absurdly technically specific but somehow manages to be completely entertaining and understandable. I still have no idea how you're able to do it!
hotchalupa : The little details in your videos, such as the ever changing desktop background color in this one to match the "book color" being discussed, makes them all the more awesome. Thank you, sir!
Cleric : Wow. Mentioning the dye on a CD-R dug up some long-forgotten memories of burning discs as a kid in the mid 90s. I'd totally forgotten being interested in how part of the discs would turn darker from the center outwards the more data was burned. I thought that was such an oddly analogue detail on a digital system.
Thomas Raven : I absolutely loved the Minidisc. I worked in sound design for theatre at the time, and the ability to rearrange tracks and re-record individual tracks without re-recording the entire disc was invaluable. I had two MD record decks and two portable players, one of which also acted as a portable digital recorder. It was fantastic hardware with only a limited appeal, but appeal to me it did.
The 1987 CD-ROM Experience: Hitachi CDR-1503S
What was the PC CD-ROM experience like in 1987? Let's find out with the Hitachi CDR-1503S / Amdek Laserdrive-1, both launching in '87 at just under $900. And for that you got a whopping 153 KB/s sequential transfer rate from 550MB discs spinning at a leisurely 200-535 RPM! Ahh, single speed read-only goodness.

Van Boy : This guy is definitely not a regular YouTuber. He is operating a tech museum from his home, rescues historical computer pieces from around the world and even puts an archive of seemingly lost in time software online. What a champ, what a saint!
Phil T Kaswahl : "The only thing more exciting than obsolete media is even more obsolete obsolete media."
That is pretty much the mission statement of this channel right there.
Simon : Take a moment to respect the Microsoft workers who typed in all the data for the CD.
David Wonn : Ah, the good old days of CD-ROM drives that had a dedicated volume adjuster. Some even had a button to skip to the next track of an audio CD, and could play even while in MS-DOS or even in the CMOS menus.
fremandn : You really do a great job of demonstrating the excitement that using something like this would bring to someone of that era
I make 12v Free Electric Generator from CD-ROM Motor
I make 12v Free Electric Generator from CD-ROM Motor
Sanjay Halder : how to make you the fake videos
Rama Daneel : What is the component that you joined near the end terminal of generator ? Mini transformer ?
Andre Van Der Mescht : Lift the plank so we can see the wiring on the bottom connecting to the screws.
Ngelantur Ngawur channel : Good job
Fitim Kumani : Pode produzir correntes insignificantes, ou melhor, pode iluminar uma pequena lâmpada de 2,5v.
