Live from Basel's popular AVO SESSION festival (now known as Baloise Session) on October 22, 2011, Portland, Oregon's "little orchestra" Pink Martini plays their inimitable arrangement of Maurice Ravel's famous orchestral work "Bolero." First recorded for the band's debut album "Sympathique," this arrangement has been a regular showpiece for the band in concert, and is a favorite of audiences. Featuring Nicholas Crosa on violin, bandleader Thomas M. Lauderdale on piano, Jeffrey Budin on trombone, and Gavin Bondy on trumpet.

Susanna Vaccaro : Bravi! Tanta roba ..ma nel vero senso della parola. Vorrei tranquillizzare l' anima di M. Ravel,che di questo brano con poche note in crescendo,non mai accettato,che fosse arrivato al grande pubblico,più di altre sue opere. Ripeto,c' è un motivo ," ha un intensa carica erotica" e le sensazioni,arrivano anche a chi non ha " nozioni " e conoscenza musicale. In fondo,facendola semplice ,ha dato modo di lavorarci e aggiungere fusioni e quant' altro,ai musicisti che osano . ( Se fosse stata piena e completa,non ci sarebbe stato niente da aggiungere,oltre il cuore,di chi la reinterpreta. Ecco una ricca dimostrazione di P.Martini.e orchestra. Il ritmo cadenzato - stile plotone d' esecuzione..è stato sostituito da percussioni soft- afro,si,molto morbide e più fluenti. Il maestro al piano,ha unito due stili : Jazz d' avanguardia e il virtuosismo dei pianisti di musica classica. La tromba di Martini,ha spaziato tra Jazz parigino ,note orientali e flamencheggianti. Si,ci sento il sud della Spagna,non a caso ,storicamente invasa dal mondo arabo,da cui ha poi ereditato molte influenze . Artistiche e sonore .{ Ci sento tutta questa " roba"}

I have no shortage of compliments for this entire ensemble, they are truly magnificent each and every one of them.
