NKK SmartSwitch™ - Another Geek Moment | DigiKey

See how DigiKey puts a new twist on an old game using SmartSwitch™ OLCD/LED pushbuttons from NKK Switches.

SmartSwitch™ saves time and money by combining a pushbutton and rocker switch with a built in programmable OLED or LCD display which can be changed with the use of a microcontroller. Implementing the use of a microcontroller can change the SmartSwitch™ display to represent only the available choices, which reduces the total number of traditional switches needed. In addition, having the display at an operator’s fingertips while deciding and selecting an action streamlines the process and decreases error. In addition, a wide viewing angle and customizable backlight and color setting allow switch programmers to alert users to changes in the system and use text or graphics to explain them.

Because SmartSwitch™ can be reprogrammed, it can be used for other projects, eliminating the need for three separate panels. Board space is also saved since there is no need to implement an LCD capacitive touch screen. Using programmable devices, such as SmartSwitch™, in place of traditional switches saves money, simplifies the system, and eliminates the need to change hardware to change the experience.

i just dont have the know how, cash, or time to build a 61 key keyboard and program all the diffrent functions.

i did price it out, at $75 a switch for the frameless oled that would be $7500 (on the websitr i can only buy in incraments of 100) or $4,575 for 61

granted the lcd ones are like 33.90 a switch do $3390 for 100 or only $2,067.90 for 61.
@chrisw1462 : They're really cool, and I'd love to have some, but.. Save Board Space? Economical?? You do realize these things are $40+ each, right? And that's the LCD version - OLED is over $90 !!!
