The iPad 2 has been out for many years, so let's see how it holds up in 2021!

Blaise Dahl : It is interesting looking at the design evolution of these devices.
Gillian Fraser : Still use mine for a backup e-reader and can check messages and emails and most of the old apps still function. A bit clunky and slow, but works with BorrowBox. And the battery is still fine- lasts for days and days.
As real as Crest ꪜ [Princess Crest] : Best iPad of its time an unreal upgrade from the iPad 1, but unfortunately it’s time to let it go. I really do miss this iPads design. Even tho iOS 9 kinda killed it I’d still argue it was still usable but the lack of app support now is the end of the stunning iPad 2.

Best iPad upgrades IMO (I’d there time) are iPad 2, iPad 4, and iPad Air 2, the iPad Air 2 is like the new iPad 2 IMO.
123RADIOactive : Cool video bud. Here's a list of apps you can still download directly from this iPad:

DISCLAIMER - this list is up to date as of the beginning of 2021 & these are the apps that doesn't require "The Last Compatible Version" in order to be downloaded. Also some of them is still being updated to this day. Keep in mind that some of the details & compatibility explained in this list will likely change over time. Lastly, a few of the games listed has a compatible sequel or different versions that I'm going to include along side each other instead of listing them individually.

Dead Trigger 1 - This game has been around for a while, like back in 2012 ~ 2013 where we were still using iOS 7 being the primary OS for mobile devices, with 8 on the way. These 2 games are you fighting off zombies, much of it is time based. The games still haven't left the realm of iOS 8 & 9 yet, so iPad 2 is still being amongst one of the devices that's receiving the few updates, despite the updates being kind of far and in between. Disclaimer - 2nd game doesn’t work anymore.

Walking Dead Season 1 & 2 - Pretty much almost everyone should have heard about The Walking Dead series & the zombies that they call walkers. The first 2 game's first episode is still up for you to download and play but requires payment after the 1st episode.

N.O.V.A 3 (Freedom & Premium Edition) - They're both pretty much the same game with the exception being the Freedom edition being free but ad supported. In terms of graphics, this game is literally as good as it gets without dropping much quality in terms of the lags/frame rate, and while yes, a few moments, it will lag, but within the acceptable tolerable range. Keep in mind that the Freedom Edition can only be played on older devices from iOS 10 or below, so it is recommend you get the iPad 2 to 4 if you want the free version. Keep in mind that unless if you got a older iPad laying around, it's cheaper to just simply by the Premium version to remove the ads & save the money you would've spent on the older iPads.

Dead Effect - It's another zombie game. It's kind of like Dead Space, Dead Trigger & Mass Effect combined. This Has a decent graphics for a old tablet & is like one of the most closest game you can get to a console game with the exceptions being The Walking Dead and GTA games. There is a sequel but requires iPad 3 or up. This game, Nova 3 & Dead Trigger games is the closest you can get to a game console. While the graphics is more on par with PlayStation 3 & Xbox 360, but when you factor in the notion that tablets as old as 2011, which many of them is likely going to be borderline outright unusable due to lags, it's quite impressive the iPad 2 is still able to hold up rather well In the game department.

The Room 1 & 2 - These 2 is yet another games with decent graphics & requires you to solve an assortments of puzzles. While they are definitely fun and a good way to kill time, but only thing I should note is that the developers did release a 3rd game but it's recommended by the developers that you get the iPad 3 or above in order to run as they can't guarantee it won't crash or lag on iPad 2 with only 512MB of ram.

Grand Theft Auto 3, Vice City & San Andreas - As most gamers would know & don't need much introduction on these titles, GTA series is a sandbox games where you can free roam your surroundings & do "certain activities" that you you would "hopefully" never do in real life. Good thing is that these games had gotten a slight graphical improvements over the PS2 & Xbox counterpart.

RetroCrush - If you enjoy watching older Anime, this is a good app to use as it while it is still occasionally being updated on the iOS 9 devices. Keep in mind that while it does have a few anime shows & movies that is from mid to late 2000's, but most of it is from the 90's and older. Also keep in mind that due to copyright reasons, there will be plenty of anime that will be missing.

Yuyu - This app is developed by the same developers of RetroCrush but instead, it contains certain numbers of free movies. Many are actually indie titles that many probably never heard before but there are some that has famous celebrities in it. Keep in mind a handful of them does require you to be a premium member which will cost money.

Zoom - unless if you've been living under a rock, Zoom is a conference video app that allows multiple people to be connected and chat at the same time. As hard as it is to believe, it's still supported on older Apple mobile devices with iOS 8 or above that has a webcam, such as an iPad 2 & iPhone 4S & iPod Touch 5. iPhone 4 & iPod Touch 4 can function last time I checked but needs "The Last Compatible Version" in order to be downloaded. So it still supports a decent amount of devices, and the plus side is that it still makes updates for devices with iOS 8 & above.

The Calculator - Now, there's no need to explain what this is. It's a calculator. While there is a lot of calculators that still supports iOS 9 The one I'm specifically talking about is the one by "International Travel Weather Calculator". This one has over 100,000 star ratings & has a decent amount of functions you need from a calculator. It is also still being updated on iOS 9 devices.

Documents - This app is made by Savy Soda, it is a basic document app that allows you to type documents for school or businesses & can access Microsoft's OneDrive in order to access your Microsoft doc files. So basically this can be in some instances, a temporary replacement if Microsoft Office Word isn't available.

Alfred Home Security IP Camera - This is a pretty handy device if you have an extra iPhone laying around & supports iOS 8 or higher. If you do, you can discreetly hide your iPhone around in your home & use it as a security camera in order to send you a live feed of inside your home whenever you leave. The good thing about this is that you can access this via Wifi, and while I believe you CAN access it through data, but keep your data plan in mind while using that instead of through wifi. It's still being updated on iOS 8 devices & if you don't want to or can't afford to spend a lot of money on a basic security system (though it is highly recommended that you do if you have the means), this is a decent alternative.

Facebook Messenger - This is still being updated even in 2021 on iOS 9 devices but I expect this won't be for much longer as Facebook had moved their main app onto iOS 10 back in around 2019 or so. ~Disclaimer: it dropped update support for iOS 9 devices recently.~

VPN: Super Unlimited Proxy - Believe it or not, there's actually an VPN that is still supported on the iOS 9 devices & if you still have YouTube, Netflix or other similar platforms on it, it can still work on those apps. ~Disclaimer: They dropped support for iOS 9 to 12 but you can still use it.~

Here's a list of apps to download if you have the ability to use the last compatible version (though keep in mind some will crash a few times). Also many of these apps will likely stop working all together at some point and inform you that you need to upgrade to a newer iPad with newer iOS.

YouTube - in 2021, YouTube still works fine though this is amongst one of the apps that will likely crash when you try to start it up but after a few tries, it will eventually work again. Disclaimer : it doesn’t work anymore.

Facebook - They stopped updating this app and moved to iOS 10 back in 2018 or 2019. Keep in mind mostd of the functions is there, yet somewhat limited, likely due to the fact that the last update it had did contain some of the core functions we use today but just didn't get much update after the last initial update release on the iOS 9. But regardless, it's still capable of watching Facebook videos, receiving most of your Facebook notifications & see your newsfeeds. So for now you can still kind of get away with it for the time being.

Netflix - To my knowledge, it still works relatively okay.

Tubi TV - This is a free alternative to Netflix, which allows you to watch limited amounts of movies & TV shows for free for a limited time. They change the movies regularly so make sure you watch them while they're still there.

Spotify - It'll still work on here once you downloaded it. You can actually play music in the background with this while you type some notes or docs, basically making this device a pretty good alternative as oppose to a $1,000 to $2,000 device if you're planning to do the same thing anyways. Though I highly recommend using a decent headphone or speaker as the speaker on this device ain't really all that great.

Microsoft Office apps - Apps like Word Document, PowerPoint & Excel still works on it. As well as OneDrive if you want to upload files onto it. Keep in mind that it still works in 2021 but this is likely going to stop working sooner rather than later as their Microsoft Outlook had already started to require you to need a newer iOS to work. Otherwise for now, this iPad is still an okay device for you to use if by some chance you have a good keyboard case for it & needed to take a cheap device to take to school.

Adobe Acrobat - if you need to view a PDF, this can still be downloaded into your device.
Joshua George Elkington : Would have been nice for this video to be a bit less of a history lesson and more about how the device performs in 2021.

Welcome to my iPad 2 review in HD. I cover various topics including the camera quality, screen, body, apps, battery life, brightness etc. The iPad 2 is not substantially different from the original iPad, although it definitely makes improvements in key areas. Ingrid Marie Kjelseth : What a great review! It was very helpful, and I learned more about the iPad 2. I'm still waiting for it to arrive at my doorstep, but when it I'm going to check out the list of Impressive things, and things that are not that great :-)
Thanks again for a wonderful review!
Keep up the good work :-)<3
Jochebed Lael D. Huang : number one thing i was wishing for the next generation was the resolution... sad to hear i might need to wait another year for a better generation ipad..:(
Steven Talunay : nice vid man! I wanted to wait for the second ipad but I might wait a little longer to see what kinda apps get developed for the dual core processor.
Unbox Therapy : @mhl026 That is a truthful answer. At the time of review the applications available weren't able to showcase a significant speed advantage. The reason I used the term, "I don't know" is because it is impossible to predict how developers might use this new processing power to improve the response of their apps. Does it feel snappier? Yes, but at this time it's still relatively subjective. The true speed of the device will be exposed in the coming months (through optimized app development).
k1ngh4wk : @unboxtherapy i think the black ipad looks more sleek and professional, what were your initial thoughts when your purchased the white ipad? I'm getting one next week and don't know which colour

Using the iPad 2 in 2020 - Review

The iPad 2 is fast approaching 9 years old. Despite this, it remains a surprisingly functional device for certain use cases- not that you should buy one anymore. How does the iPad 2 hold up in 2020?

91Tech : Anyone out there still have this iPad? Anyone still somehow using it?
Hope y'all are doing well, have a great weekend!
Metra force : When one of the greatest iPad upgrades turns to dust because of a software update...
Benjamin : I downgraded my own iPad 2 to iOS 6 a few years ago when I was still using it (now on a iPad Air 2), and it became a lot faster, but app support wasn’t that great (this was in 2015-16 I think). The iPad two is not that great today, but at least it’s a LOT better than the first iPad because it has enough ram at least.
Francis Chacko : I still remember getting one used back in 2012. Good times.
Ludupus : I remember that this iPad became very popular at school at the time, and they are still using this iPad in 2020 for school education. :)
