On June 27th last year, major cities worldwide held a parade and festival supporting sexual minorities. We introduce our viewers to a short film that touches upon various perceptions of discrimination and hatred towards such a group of people. [A Good Mother] is a film that revolves around a teacher whose daughter is a sexual minority. She gets drawn into a conversation about sexual minorities with her colleagues, illustrating various dimensions of how people see sexual minorities. Starred in the film herself, director Lee Yu-jin tells us how she developed the characters that appear throughout the movie and what response her movie drew from foreign film festivals.

지난 6월 27일, 전 세계 주요 도시에서는 성 소수자를 지지하는 퀴어 퍼레이드 행진과 축제가 열렸다. 매년 이맘때 성 소수자 차별과 혐오에 대한 다양한 시선이 오가는 시기, ‘성 소수자’ 딸을 둔 어머니의 이야기를 담은 단편영화를 소개한다. 영화 [굿 마더]는 성 소수자 딸을 둔 어머니가 동료 교사들과의 모임에 참석하게 되고 ‘성 소수자’를 주제로 대화가 오가게 되는 상황에 놓이게 되면서 벌어지는 이야기로, 성 소수자를 바라보는 인물들의 다양한 모습을 담고 있다. 이 영화를 연출한 이유진 감독이 직접 출연해 ‘성 소수자’와 그를 둘러싼 인물들을 어떻게 만들게 됐는지 캐릭터 설정 과정부터 이 영화를 본 해외 영화제의 반응까지 다양한 이야기를 들려준다.
