How to set up and program a WD TV Live box
Kevin explains how to set up, program and use the WD TV Live box by Western Digital.
@kevintalkstech : Hi Andrew - I'm glad to hear you were able to solve the problem! I'll keep that in mind too should I ever encounter that problem myself or if another related question comes up. Thanks!
@ouroesa9707 : I feel you should mention some of the negatives i.e. extremely long "compiling media library" when using larger HDD's or HDD's with lots of other files on, laggy interface, device running out of memory problems, and device corrupting its own media library files once every now and then. Overall i am happy with the product, but you have to note the positive and negative points.
@Tangeloor : 2 biggies about this box. 1st, is how many different video, audio, and image formats it's able to handle. Looking at that list, compared to the other boxes is what sold me.
2nd is that when you plug the ethernet cable into the WD, and then add a portable hard drive or two-those drives are automatically accessible to other machines on the home net. You can copy files to/from that drive right through the WD.
(My main system is not always on-when it is, I can just draw files from my main PC)
@marchriscw : Thanks Kevin. Although I have a WDTV LIVE HUB 1TB BUNDLE Western Digital TV MEDIA CENTER, I used your very good video to get the basic setup ideafor my 1TB internal drive box. I guess I will read the manual now to find out how to copy files onto the 1TB internal drive. Your video was very clear.
@ajkenney2000 : I actually solved the problem. I was trying to access the movie files directly on my media server. That's where my problem was. I should have accessed the files "through" the media server interface. When I did that, the problems went away.
Apparently, the media server apps regulate the delivery bit rate based on the device making the request. All I know, it works fine now!

@ObiWanBillKenobi : Thank you very much! Here in 2022, I got one of these in a box of tech refuse. Now I know what it is and what I can do with it!
@paulwarner5395 : Thanx for that . Even after 10 years it's still my main player for downloaded media files all except for x265
@tobyhines7587 : Just added OG WD Media Player 1st. Gen to Fire TV Cube 3rd.Gen HDMI in just to see if it worked still, and it's working great.
@ZONATAR : You can also plugin a wifi-usb on the first port, it's great!
@billyjones5091 : I have an old Western Digital Media Player. I have tons of videos in it that I treasure and took me years to collect. The problem is that it’s old and ancient and I’m worried that one day it’s going to conk out and lose all my streamed videos forever. Is there anyway that I can transfer them to a more up to date and modern media player?
Western Digial Media Player Reset instructions
@gingerwilksie : Had this issue myself but worked out that pressing the 'OK' button didn't continuously play a bunch of files in the folder unless I clicked the continuous button repeatedly (even though it was already correct). It seems like a bug.
Also, I hear pressing just the `'Play' button instead of 'OK' works.
@shanejones5885 : There is actually a reset button in the bottom vents. You have to look closely to see it, but it's there.
@maniacmasturbator2411 : sometimes when I download a video off of YouTube, it will freeze when I play it on the WD media player. It’s an mp4 file, and it will play on a VLC player on a PC or laptop. But when it’s played on the WD media player, it just plays for a few seconds and the screen freezes. The sound stays the same, but the screen freezes at one spot.
Do you know why it does this?
@mathewbraganza1307 : Remote I need
@larrybowers64 : Why don’t you take a course on how to make a YouTube video??
