Hi Guys,
Bob's watches in the US lent me a New Rolex Explorer 214270 Mk II, so I thought I'd go through the pros and cons of all the modern Rolex Explorers, but mainly comparing the wearability of the 36mm Explorer vs the 39mm Explorer.
The Rolex Explorer versions we look at are:
14270
114270
214270 Mk I
214270 Mk II
Thanks again to Bob's watches for lending me the watch.

Which Rolex explorer is the best?, which rolex explorer should I get?, Is the 36mm explorer too small?, Is 36mm too small for a mans watch?, Rolex Explorer 36mm vs 39mm, what is the difference between the rolex explorers, what is the difference between the rolex explorer 14270 and 114270, what is the difference between the 214270 and new 214270,
ivan kerr : Watch the prices jump massively as it’s now the only 39mm Sports Rolex. Only a few on Chrono24 from £6250 upwards. If Rolex increase size to 41mm the 39mm can only go one way.
Daniel Varadi : The 36mm versions just have better proportions...correct me if I’m wrong, but I do believe the 214280 uses the same crown as the 14270 and 114270 making it look undersized and the case more bloated.
Vartan297 : Is the 39 mk1 the watch that gets called the black numeral Explorer?
Rafael Rubalcava : Hello Adrian...I love your comparisons of the Rolex Explorer I and I am debating between a 36mm and 39mm. As soon as it’s safe (due to COVID-19) I will try out both. For reference, how tall are you and what’s your wrist size in inches. Big fan of yours and enjoy your watch reviews.
Take Care,
Rafael
Los Angeles, California
richard murphy : 36 i didnt get bigger
uriel gonzalez : what you think about SMITHS EVEREST PRS-25 40mm???
David Datura : In isolation the 39mm looks fine if a bit off in someway, I had a look at one in an AD. But next to the 36mm here, even the Mark II looks a bit like that it just looks oversized with distorted numerals and indices, which look like they’ve just been magnified and not properly integrated into the design like they should of been. The same goes for when directly comparing the 39/40mm Explorer II to the contemporary 42mm version. There’s an excellent video by ID Guy that explains this perfectly.
sachin singh : 39 ofcourse
ghostr1der_ : they are boring.
Adrien M : I’m hopeful for a MK3 that is 36-38. 39 is too big for a field watch.
Rolex Explorer 214270 Size Comparison
Another crappy amateur video from me :-)
I got my grail watch: Rolex Explorer 214270 mk2. I wanted to do a comparison video for those in doubt about the size.
Comparing it to 2 popular watches: Seiko SKX007 and Tudor BB36.
Guys, this watch will definitely fit a slender wrist!
Sorry I didn’t reply to comments in the Grand Seiko review. I did warn you that this channel would be low volume ;-)
Rich H. : Good video. I'm starting to get the Explorer. I haven't seen it in person yet and that is my next goal. it is still an ungodly amount of money here in the States.
Konrad von Marburg : lol You do tend to stare at your rolexes. At least I do.
Konrad von Marburg : I have a 36mm DateJust. I want a larger Rolex for a sports watch. I think the 39mm is perfect.
Timelapse - A418A : Hello, I got interested in the explorer but can't find it anywhere to try it on. Now I love it but I'm scared that it's too big. Can you tell me if it'll fit me fine...
For reference, here's a picture of me wearing my 40mm Daytona, that I think is slightly bigger than I prefer:
https://imgur.com/e4HnSaQ
A K : Good review but must be so uncomfortable wearing your watch over your wrist joint like that
BoredMango : So I’m really considering this watch, the comparison with the skx made me nervous though because it looked so similar in size to the skx. And I feel my skx dial is slightly too big for me, lug to lug is no problem, but the dial size bothers me.
Would you say they look similar on your wrist in person?
M Safrons : The explorer fills out your wrist size much better, the 36 seems a smidge small.
ddeforest37830 : The size, shape and proportion of the Explorer are great. 39mm is described by some experts as the perfect size imgs.love/RolexExBlack If you’re young and very trendy though, the Explorer may not be big enough. If you’re mature in age or in taste, this will be an excellent size for you.
Andy Chang : Just paid for mine
but due to the virus, have get a chance to pick it up
really can't wait to meet my own explorer :)
Mark Read : Have you done the ‘road to the Explorer video’ yet or am I jumping the gun?! I am currently on that road and feel I’ve made the same mistakes in wasting time and money in everything but the watch I know I want for life!

tim chan : Whats the diff between buying from you guys vs an AD?
