username132 : @mickymeltdown I doubt it's that simple. For low-drain/infrequent use electronics like a smoke alarm, alkaline might be your best bet, for high-drain applications, like some torches or digital cameras, quality rechargeables (e.g. Sanyo 2700 mAh) win every time.
