Alice V : This answered so many of my questions, thank you, but... well, now I have just a couple follow up questions: How does the hole popper work? Why is this cutting method so precise? How much wire was used cutting those four pieces? Why does the used wire become unsuitable for further use in that machine? Does most of the "sawdust" stay floating around in the water? Or does an appreciable amount of sediment collect in the bottom of the water tank? Either way, if filtering the water isn't enough to keep the tank in which the cutting is done clean, how often does the sediment need to be removed?
BUT SRSLY GUYS you don't have to answer those! I'm sure I can look most of it up easily enough, probably a lot of it is in the manual. It's pretty cool how many manuals are available as PDFs that you can download from the manufacturer's website.
Somewhat relatedly, I went on a field trip to a yo-yo factory when I was in high school; the molds they used cost like a million bucks each. I don't know what kind of machine(s) were used in their production, but those molds were probably the smoothest things I'd ever seen. I'd had no idea so much engineering went into designing a yo-yo. Then, there was a series of stations where they'd assemble the yo-yos after the plastic had been molded and cooled, and the workers would change stations every two hours so they wouldn't get repetitive stress injuries/die of boredom.
