Samsung CLP-510 Colour Laser Printer Teardown

My old colour laser printer had been sitting around long enough, thankfully the printer still had a number of useful parts.

It took longer than I was expecting to dismantle the whole thing but it was an interesting process and I came away with a load of useful parts including some nice stepper motors complete with controller boards.

This service manual provides an incredible amount of detail on the operation of this printer, its fascinating if you're into that sort of thing!

Fuzzy Electronics : Excellent teardown. I appreciate how much work goes into doing it and making an interesting video at the same time.
oom bas : I still own a printer like that, bought it at introduction about 10 years ago and added a network card, so it functions as a 510N and it still serves me well.
For documents I use that printer, double- and single sided. For photo's I use a multipurpose Inkjet.
Today I received a complete set of 'compatible' cartridges, I quit filling the cartridges myself quite a few years ago.
On a regular basis, I (have to) clean the 'waste toner' container properly.
I use the printer on all PC's and OS's available, netbooks to workstations. Linux and Windows, including Windows 10.
Eventually dismantling it for parts?
No.
Dismantling it for reducing the weight, that is an option.
Though I liked the video, it shows some of what I did.
For instance, I dismantled the previous printer, a HP 2500 Color Laserjet.
Not for the parts, this already is a House of Parts.
Jerry Norcross : Interesting side note; I just tore down the same model but mine did not have those four solenoids you talked about at 35:00 ; instead there were just relays soldered to the board. As far as I can tell, everything else was identical. I was really looking forward to playing with those, too.
Chip Guy : 19:35: These are solder catchers. The board is wave soldered and these catch the solder. Otherwise the pins next to the catchers would be connected to each other with solder.
Anthony Starfield : Are you really going to use those parts, or do you just like to collect parts for the sake of collecting parts? I like minimalism; if I'm not going to use it, then recycling it, sell it, make it go away.

I have a Samsung CLP-510N printer. It was giving me an error message - Install imagining unit. The bastards at Samsung designed this thing so that after it prints so many pages, it complains that it needs a new drum (also known as the imaging unit) or it needs a new toner cartridge, and this thing has four cartridges. The drum is still okay, the toner cartridges still have toner in them. The printer forces people to buy drums and cartridges that they don't need!

So tell your friends and co-workers, do not buy Samsung printers!

Last night I pulled out the fuser and drum, then put it back together. Now it's printing okay; it just says it needs new yellow, magenta and cyan cartridges.

I found toner cartridges on Ebay for around $33 with shipping, but even so, it's not worth the money. I'll just use the printer as long as it keeps printing. When it comes down to - Spend at least $30 on the printer or junk it, I will recycle the thing and buy another printer.

And you can recycle your electronics! That is much better than throwing more junk into a land fill, especially since electronic gadgets often contain heavy metals.

Samsung sucks for screwing their customers like this, greedy pigs. I won't be buying another Samsung printer.

Константин М : Доброго времени , подскажите пожалуйста. куплен новый картридж , идет ошибка несовместимый картридж ( черный ) вопрос решить не получится?
Андрей Федякин : Сколько тонера туда сыпать? Если куплю баночку 45грамм, хватит?
RM TECH : Чип, если картридж старый, то у чипа есть срок годности, + самыч выпускает обновления, чтобы старые не работали.
