CER - Claim Evidence Reasoning

In this video Paul Andersen explains how the CER framework can be used to give explanations in a science classroom. In order to make a complete explanation a Claim must be supported by Evidence and Reasoning connecting the evidence to the claim.

LitoDaBurrito : who else had to watch this for homework?
Michael Kankolenski : Too many times students want to just " regurgitate" information without truly understanding what they are doing. I plan on using more of this claim, evidence, reasoning as a vehicle for students to demonstrate their knowledge and understanding. Thanks again Paul for all the great resources. See you next week at STANYS.
Kara R : Thanks! We've really been pushing this at my school, and the students still struggle with reasoning. Hopefully this video will serve as another helpful resource for them. I have a lot of students who love the way you explain things, so thank you and keep up the great work!!!
Ying Cao : So helpful I thought I would've got all of it wrong but then I got a 100%.Thank you
IncogNeo : If you want a tip when taking notes from a video: Put the video in 2x speed, you can understand it all (if not put it slower) and it’s just a quicker way of taking notes. If you get good at it, you can even watch videos in 3x speed, that is if the website supports it. Hope this helps and saves everyone some time on school work!

cer spence : It's time for me to finally admit a really difficult truth. This is not a "parody" or a piece of "fiction". I let my friend Kev film us for a week and this is just us coming out as who we really truly are. I hope I don't lose any subs after this. I worked so hard to try to build this image of myself as this "normal" guy. I'm over that. This is now going to be a non-comedic, non-scripted Vlog channel. Sick of hiding who we are. Thank you and God bless you!!
Joel Haver : I’m so happy for Preston, she really seemed to like him :)
Kevin Amarillo : I’m glad she called the cops, there’s a lot of scary people out there
AbbasRB7 : The self-censorship is done so f-ing well.

CER (Claim, Evidence, Reasoning) in Biology

The CER framework is a useful framework for developing a scientific explanation. In this video, the Amoeba Sisters use this framework after a biology investigation. As mentioned, there are many ways to use this framework. Also, as we point out in the video, CER is not necessarily needing to be in this order. We've seen several models such as CERR, ERC, and more.

OTHER FURTHER READING SUGGESTIONS:

Our particular example included peer-reviewed research in the evidence, in addition to our data. What does it mean for something to be peer-reviewed? We love this page from Berkeley:

Amoeba Sisters : We always like to pin a comment for additional video notes. This video centers around brumation in red-eared slider turtles. However, there is a point where we mention that viewers may be more familiar with the word "hibernation" when talking about mammals. While we don't specifically name any mammal types, did bears pop up in your mind? So we've seen respected sources talk about bear hibernation and then other respected sources mention that bears don't truly hibernate. We were really curious about this, and we just want to share some of our search on this in case you had any interest. Much of this seems to depend on the defining of mammalian hibernation. An answer we found helpful here with further listed references you can check out: https://bear.org/do-black-bears-hibernate/ and it has some references at the bottom that you can further explore.
In addition, here are some papers about metabolic changes that occur in different species of bears during hibernation just in case you're curious! https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/31669707/ https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/26880364/ https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/19940994/
Kibble G : You guys are why I’m improving in my science class. THANK YOU AMOBEA SISTERS!
Mounir Zouhari : First of all, I just wanted to say that I really admire your video; the animation, the teaching style and how simple you make and present the concept is why you are my favorite channel.. You make the concepts that I really didn't understand easy and make me truly enjoy biology. I am sure that you are working super hard on your videos and in the same time you are a full time teacher, so it must be tiring . But i think a great way to improve your channel would maybe , in a another channel or even this one to make remake videos or make videos with all the details possible with the same animation and teaching style so that we can truly understand everything ( i am not saying that i am dissatisfied with your videos, i think they are near perfect) because when i try to watch YouTube videos that explain more in detail , I have difficulty understand them . I just think that with your brilliant way of teaching and the amazing animation style that help us understand biology, you could make understand all your viewers even with the most difficult and detailed material. I know that it would take a large amount of time and I would understand if just didn't have the time but if its possible for you to make longer videos with more details, i think that it would really improve your channel and help the biology students to have a more grasp understand of biology.
GLOBAL LOVING : Cool video. Love this channel ❤️
Charley S : Y’all got me through my first college bio class, thank you
