Object Toolbar
In this video we will cover the tools located within the object toolbar often referenced as the six orange box toolbar
The tools available in this toolbar are text, custom shapes, ruler, line or arrow, ceremony chairs and air wall or pipe and drape
Let's start with the text tool
Click on the T with your mouse and place the text where you would like it
In the properties box that appears, you can change the text by typing into the space provided
You can also rotate the text, as well as change the font size and color
Next, you will find the custom shape tools
There are several uses for the custom square and circle
Both tools are great to design a custom dimension stage or dance floor
By selecting either the square or circle icon, the cursor will transform into the crosshairs icon Move your cursor to your diagram, and click down on the diagram
Move your mouse to the desired size of the square or circle
While dragging the shape, dimensions will be displayed
Once you let off the click and drag, a properties box will appear for the shape
Within the properties box you can change the color, adjust the rotation and orientation, you can manually adjust the dimensions for length width and height, and you can provide a label
There are manipulations to the label, such as changing the font size and color, or hiding the label and or dimensions
There are two features within the custom square that are not available for the custom circle
First, once a custom square has been placed on your diagram, you will be able to upload any image from your computer
Select the file fill button beside the color fill option and select the file for which you wish to have within the square
Once this file has been placed in the square, click your cursor within the properties box where now you can adjust the opacity of the file
The second feature within the custom square is the null zone feature
Once a custom square has been placed on your diagram, the null zone option will be present within the properties box under the color fill option
By selecting the null zone box to be checked the custom square will become gray in color and will be filled with dots
This indicates that the square is now a null zone
The null zone acts as a buffer where no objects can be placed within the zone
The objects will only become placeable once outside the perimeter of the zone
Anything you place on a diagram can be locked into place within the properties box
Select the lock icon in the top left hand corner
We suggest locking null zones in place so it does not shift as you are continuing to diagram Moving to the third tool available, select the ruler icon and the plus icon from the drop down menu to transform your cursor to a crosshairs cursor
Move your cursor to your diagram and click on the starting location to begin the measurement of the ruler
Drag your cursor to extend the ruler and click on the ending location to finalize the length of the ruler
You will be able to move the ruler by clicking the stem on the ruler and moving your cursor to the desired relocation
To add multiple rulers, select the plus button back on the drop down menu of the ruler icon within the object toolbar
Rulers will be visible on diagrams that are exported to pdf or printed
The next tool is the line and arrow tool
Select whether you want it with or without an arrowhead
Let's select with an arrowhead, and draw it out to indicate the flow of the room
Like in the rectangle use the mouse to create the line
If you need to change the line simply click and hold one of the line handles and drag it
The next feature is the ceremony chair tool
Check out the ceremony chair tutorial video to review this feature
The last object we will go over is the air wall or pipe and drape tool
Simply select the tool and move your cursor to the area you wish to place this object
Click on the starting location and drag your cursor in the direction you wish the air wall or pipe and drape to go
Depending on how far you drag your cursor determines the length of the object
Click back on your diagram at the ending location to finalize the placement of the air wall or pipe and drape
Finalizing the placement will populate a properties box for the air wall or pipe and drape
Within the properties box you can determine if this object is an air wall or pipe and drape
You can adjust the length and height and you can give this object a 2D and 3D color
Air walls, pipe and drapes, and custom shapes will all populate in 2D and 3D

Introduction to WAVE

WAVE is a suite of evaluation tools that helps authors make their web content more accessible to individuals with disabilities. WAVE can identify many accessibility and Web Content Accessibility Guideline (WCAG) errors, but also facilitates human evaluation of web content.

This video provides a high-level orientation to WAVE by reviewing the findings for an example page (nasa.gov/press-release/beanastronaut-nasa-seeks-applicants-to-explore-moon-mars).

Access WAVE online at wave.webaim.org. Information about browser extensions for Chrome and Firefox is available at wave.webaim.org/extension.

Widow / Orphan Control in MS Word by Chris Menard

By default, Word prevents the last line of a paragraph from appearing at the top or bottom of a page. If you have one line of a paragraph on a page by itself, turn on Widow / Orphan control to keep the paragraph from being on two pages. Click in the paragraph. On the Home tab, click the paragraph dialog box, and select the Line and Page Breaks tab, now check Widow/Orphan control check box and click OK.
