Sam Ward : HT adds about a 10% boost. So if you have 8 cores, you would say that equates to 8.8 cores. HT is for compiling and rendering.
Matt Parker : there is another aspect the Xenon's excel at, budget used parts, with the MBs coming out of China, you can get some GREAT bang for buck, though there are trade offs, it's still a really good bargain.

Habe zurzeit einen i7 920er prozessor drin, und wenn man für knapp 30 euro solch ein teil bekommt bietet sich das ja eigentlich gut an oder nicht
Habe das MSI x58 Pro- e (ms-7522) und wollte mir für den Intel Xeon x5670 den EKL Alpenföhn Brocken 3 Lüfter holen (falls nicht zu überdimensioniert)
und 3x (triple channel) corsair 4gb ddr 1333mhz Ram chips und ein max 450 Watt Netzteil (Zurzeit chinaböller verbaut)
was sagt ihr dazu?

Ahmet Refik Eryilmaz : I am saying these as a person who actually knows about the stuff you're making video of;
That is a terrible value and the computer is shit. That cinebench score you got over there is the ultimate metric of a cpu's performance (non-AVX however, but I digress) as cinebench is as synthetic and universal as it gets for cpus. Sure a particular video card won't be bottlenecked if a game is heavily threaded enough to a point where the thread count of a particular cpu can compensate for the lack of speed and IPC of each of the threads but you could just go and buy a hexacore first-gen ryzen and have far better overall performance in any workload with far less power consumption and fat better present and future I/O compatibility. Normal boot times and faster memory will be a plus (the additional memory channels you have with the piece of e-waste you have spent so much time and money for won't be utilized in the majority of uses you can find for it so no channel argument there) and you'd have a chasis that you can actually lift up and transport with (relative) ease.

Failed electrolytic capacitors will usually have swollen tops (if even so slightly) and it is good practice to replace them on sight. You take a multimeter and stab the caps appropriately (there are comprehensive guides to do so out there). But beware they may give out funky readings especially when there are other caps in parallel.

There isn't any value whatsoever in salvaging server cpus older than the x79 generation and even those warrant much consideration about the cost and hassle.

ryzen 5 3600 beats it at multitreaded and absolutly destroys on single thread

this setup beats it in every workload , consumes less power, allowes upgrade to 16 core ryzen 9 or a more powerfull gpu
supports nvme boot , sata 6 usb 3.2 pcie 3.0 with a 50€ upgrade to b550 pcie 4.0 ram , psu and case can be used for the next build.

one caveat: ddr4 prices were not as low as they are now when the video released so maybe if you absolutly need a shit ton of ram these 12 dimm mosters equipped with cheap ddr3 still had some place in this world not today though
