Curtiss P-40 American Fighter Aircraft - Historical Documentary
The Curtiss P-40 Warhawk is an American single-engined, single-seat, all-metal fighter and ground-attack aircraft that first flew in 1938. The P-40 design was a modification of the previous Curtiss P-36 Hawk which reduced development time and enabled a rapid entry into production and operational service. The Warhawk was used by most Allied powers during World War II, and remained in frontline service until the end of the war. It was the third most-produced American fighter, after the P-51 and P-47; by November 1944, when production of the P-40 ceased, 13,738 had been built, all at Curtiss-Wright Corporation's main production facilities at Buffalo, New York.

Wandering Sirfetch'd : One of my most favorite fighters. Sadly underrated, and eclipsed by fighters with better performance (P-51 and Spitfire) or better firepower and durability (P-47.) While these three fighters automatically captured my attention as first glance, the P-40 took awhile for me to like, yet it became a plane that I learned to respect the more I learned of its history.
Ronnel Echavez : This plane is so underrated.
Last Dog Up : My Fathers cousin was doing dive bombing practice in Sarasota bay in a P40, 1943, when he pulled out of the dive his canopy collapsed on him crashing the plane and killing him. A unsung hero of WWII.
Peter Franzen : IMO the P40 was just like the M3 grant/lee not the best but available in numbers and good enough to fill the gap until better aircraft / tanks become available.
Better to have something NOW the the best too late.
eo On : Thanks to p40 for his contribution to the Chinese War of Resistance Against Japan
2020 P-40 E Warhawk Flight
The Military Aviation Museum flying it's P-40 E Warhawk on October 10, 2020. It was overcast and rainy, so the flight footage suffered. This P-40 was restored by the museum's Fighter Factory and AVSPECS in New Zealand from a wreck recovered in Murmansk, Russia (where it would have been a "Kittyhawk"). Her first flight after restoration was in April of 2003. These planes were built in New York, transported to Persia (Iran) for final assembly, then flown to Russia for use as part of the Lend-Lease program. The restoration displays the livery of "Tex" Hill in the AVG "Flying Tigers".
Marcos Caba : It's a beautiful thing to see a legend come to life.
toyman81 : Great wonders were designed for aviation during WW2, Some of the most Beautiful Planes ever made came from that era. From all sides of the world.
Jack Aubrey : The P40, my very first aviation love!
Snowstorm : What a beautiful bird and a piece of history about the Flying Tigers.
Howard Man : Last time you posted a video of the P-40 was 10 years ago . This was cool to see in person though!
What it's like to fly the Curtiss P-40 Warhawk
Ride along as Barry Schiff flies P-40 'American Dream' owned by Thom Richard of Warbird Adventures in Kissimmee, Florida.
JohnInNH : Flying a P-40 is on my bucket list. It's the reason I started flying. IMHO the best looking WWII fighter. I have a painting of one in my livingroom.
Acc0rd79 : Started my private pilot training there, was always so cool to see these planes just sitting around the hangar like parked cars in the garage! Thom is also a very cool guy.
Edward Pate : The late great Jeff Ethel stated that the Mustang controls felt like they were stuck in concrete compared to the P-40!
S C : This plane with the merlin engine, easily the best fighter in the war. At low levels below 20k feet, it was.
Ray Conger : 1:33
Agreed. With it's ferocious maw, sculpted tips and lofty nose, the P-40 is the sexiest airplane ever !
As a kid, I too had a Revell 1/32 scale polystyrene plastic kit dressed up in the Chinese mercenary livery of Claire Lee Chennault's Flying Tigers and also read Al Avery's novel "A Yankee Flier in the Far East." They surely captured the imagination of young dreamers !!
