What is ctfmon.exe? Should I disable it on Windows10?

A few fraudulent anti-virus and tech-support companies have been trying to present genuine processes in the Windows Task Manager as a virus or malware to fool customers into buying their product or service. One such case is with the process ctfmon.exe or CTF Loader.

Cftmon.exe as explained earlier is a genuine file needed by Microsoft Office. However, many users have reported a virus with the same name. The original file is located in C:\\Windows\\System32. If a similarly named file is found outside that folder, it could well be a virus or malware.

To check if the file is a virus or a genuine file, right-click on the process in the Task Manager and select Open location. If the location is the original System32 folder, the file is legit and genuine. If not, then you need to run a full system anti-virus scan right away.

Urodeprag 1 : I'm wondering if you can help me on this. Whenever I restart/shutdown my computer, ctfloader is gone and whenever ctfmon isn't active I can't type in search bars such as windows button search bar and folders. I keep having to go back to system 32 and activate ctfmon everytime my computer shuts off.

Can't Type in Windows 10 Search Bar - 100% Fix

After latest update some people face this issue. that windows search box didn't work. they can't write anything in it. hear is this simple method that fix this issue. let's start. here i can't write anything.

method 1: 100%fix

go to c drive / windows / system 32 folder and open ctfmon.exe . now try search box.
Voila.
But when you restart it may stopped working again, just create a task to run this program every time you start the windows. press Windows Key + R, type “shell:startup” into the Run dialog .

now create a shortcut of fmon.exe and paste that in above folder.

Press Win + R (to open Run )
copy paste and press enter to run this program. "C:\\Windows\\system32\\ctfmon.exe". it brings back the language bar and for me it allowed me to type in windows search, start menu and WINDOWS 10 apps again
I think it is due to missing Language bar or some think like that.
But when you restart it may stopped working again, just create a task to run this program every time you start the windows.


method 2.
I suggest you to check if Windows search service is running.
1 . Press Windows plus R key and type "services.msc" and press enter.
2 . Locate the Windows Search service and right click on it.
3 . Click on Properties and check the start option has been enabled.
Check if issue persists.

Several Korveks : Thanks, that shortcut was the solution, and tbh it makes sense. I just put it in the startup folder.

I think the problem was, that windows deleted all the events in the task sheduler, so that the MsCtfMonitor went missing.
Either repair tool or reinstalling windows

But now pretty much a year later I got so frustrated that I needed to fix it myself.
