Land Rover doesn't exactly have the best reputation for reliability, so you'd be right to question whether a used one is a good option. However, find the right Freelander 2 and you might be onto a good thing.

But what should you be on the look out for if you're thinking of buying one?

At ReDriven, we’ll be taking you through the pros and cons of a huge range of used cars to see how well they’re going now that they’re a few years old, have thousands of kilometres on the clock, and are coming toward the end of their warranty, or maybe don’t have one at all.

Plus, thanks to our resident mechanic, Jim, you’ll find out what commonly goes wrong with them and what might need to be fixed.

Most importantly, we want to make ReDriven a voice for the most in-the-know used car experts there are...you guys.. See, you’re the ones that actually buy, live with, love and sometimes unfortunately hate the cars we’ll be reviewing.

So we want to hear your thoughts. Hit us up in the comments, or on Instagram and Facebook.

We’d love nothing more than for you to give us as much feedback as possible, so we can make this channel the best it can be.

Murray Edgar : Got one now which I've had for 6 years, 80000k's. Replaced throttle body at 120 k's and just had the timing belt and water pump done. No other stuff apart from regular maintenance. Comfy for distance, tows well and is reasonably good for fuel (diesel 2,2). I've had a good experience and plan to keep it until I know where electric is going. No regrets.
Albert Snijders : Have one for 16 years now ( 2006 build). Never broke down. Always reliable. Love this car.
Jed : I've got some tips, actually, for anyone who's thinking of buying one. Firstly - don't get the pre-facelift entry-level version (pre-2011) as shown in this review. Not only are they just getting a bit old, but there were a few technical issues that were sorted in later models. Also, if you aren't going to stump up for the higher-spec models, just buy something else. The thing that makes these worth buying are all the premium features like the nice interior, amazing Meridian sound system and other Land Rover goodies that have trickled down from the Range Rovers and Discovery - coupled with great driving dynamics, off-road etc etc. The top of the range HSE versions can be hard to find, but they are the ones to get. The entry-level ones are ok, but they don't make as compelling a value proposition.
Daniel Bulman : I have one and love it. It done 111kms and it has been very reliable and has actually gone up in value since we bought it 3 years ago. Highly recommend it.
Gaz Williams : It's worth mentioning that the entertainment system in the vehicle you showed is aftermarket and not the OEM audio head unit the Freelander 2's came with.

LAND ROVER FREELANDER 2. 4X4 BUYER'S GUIDE & REVIEW

FREELANDER 2. 4X4 BUYER'S GUIDE AND REVIEW
It may be a softroader, but THE FREELANDER 2 seems to get it right for LOOKS and relative RELIABILITY compared to its siblings as well as BEING GREAT VALUE.
BUT, are there features that make THE FREELANDER 2 pretty useless for off-road and just another NEWBIE SUNDAY DRIVER'S SOFTROADER?

Läs CM : The most underrated LR by far. Got a 2009 SE and absolutely love it. Generally does everything well. A reliable, comfortable cruiser which achieves a shade over 40mpg motorway mileage. Great in winter if fitted with decent tyres and according to the guys at the Yorks L R Experience (which we attended earlier this year) the lowly Freelander 2 is their ‘go-to’ in Snow and Iced conditions! Easy to service and parts readily available. Stick to regular maintenance, especially oil/haldex, filters and tyres and look after it properly. What’s not to like
OM PRAKASH PANDEY : Superbly explained.
Changing lube oil in differential is of immense importance.
Chizz : had mine remaped for fuel economy now does 48mph motorway , added bonus went from 158bhp to 185bhp,2009 freelander(once got 50mph Sheffield to Nottingham driving like a saint) 29-30 round Town,Excellent video by the way
roger madeley : Autotrader gives it 4 out of 5 stars for reliability. I love my 2008 model and only 53000 on the clock.
nick Davis : its a great bit of kit ,my mate works for Land/jag he reckons 2011 to 2014 freelander 2s are bullet proof

When Greenlaning Goes Wrong! (Freelander 2 Focus) - A Video by Joel Self - Outdoor Instructor

A quick jaunt along a 1km byway takes an unexpected turn. An hour or more later and with the landy suffering some war-wounds this was a good lesson to have, makes you think and reflect on how blasé we can be about driving our local lanes that we regularly enjoy! Best not to get over confident and comfortable! I hope you enjoy the video and can pick out the good, bad and ugly from how I handled this trip!

Freelander2_Litelander : Good effort. It’s a shame you damaged your drivers side mirror. You could have had my mismatched passenger side one as and when I find a gen2 version.
My Freelander Td4 : Thanks for sharing this video!!
It happened similarly to me ,once I went down a water stream just to find out that it was blocked !!!
Luckily I was able to reverse and get the hell out of there.
We should never go by ourselves(But....) and we should have all recovery gear ,as well as food, water and a thermal blanket just in case...plus CB radio , flashlight.
Take care Joel ....Great video
Phillip Stewart-Forshaw : Good for you for showing how things can go wrong. We've all been there.
Lexie Dennis : Hiya Joel, bad luck about the mirror. I guess you know you can press both mirror buttons simultaneously and they'll both fold in like when you park? Might give you a few extra mils in a tight spot, temporarily. Well done for getting out in the end, not an easy reverse for sure!
Louis Hicks : Hello again, Joel! I spoke with you on the Forum some time ago and was then based in Portland, OR USA with my 2011 3.2i6. I have just moved back to the UK and of course I had to sell my FL2. I ran into some trouble finding a good on here that was at acceptable milage and in good condition. I ended up having to buy a Discovery Sport as the next closest thing. People have really battered the FL2s it seems. I'd really hoped to have another, but it wasn't to be. At some stage I will have to do a trip with you guys. I will soon have all my gear over from the US, and will then be up for some camping and some driving trips. I won't be able to put mine through the punishment you do, because its going to be my only car for a while and wasn't cheap, but I will be taking it offroad and camping wherever it can take me.
