Why did China’s zero-Covid policy lead to workers fleeing an iPhone factory? - BBC News
Earlier this week, workers broke out of Apple's largest iPhone assembly factory in China after a Covid outbreak forced staff to lockdown at the workplace.
Videos shared online showed about 10 people jumping a fence outside the plant, owned by manufacturer Foxconn, in the central city of Zhengzhou.
But how are Chinese people and businesses grappling with President Xi Jinping's rigid zero-Covid policy?

Tride : As a foreigner living in China I'd say that this only fuels mental health issues that will affect Chinese society in long terms. People here are already very anxious and depressed
James : You had people in the UK literally crying about wearing a mask for 5 minutes while shopping, meanwhile in China you had your door welded shut until you tested negative
EyFmS : Well if Xi Jinping's zero Covid policy is helping the shift of the production outside of China...then it's a good thing, we shouldn't be dependent on China as a sole provider or consumer products. It will help China's pollution problem (not changing your cellphone every year would also be good) and help other nations in need of work.
JCA : Nightmare. I'm so grateful I don't live under that government
Alexandra K : More of this! This was actually a pretty good report ...

Gokul Gopan : The electronics and machineries could also be Capital expenditure of manufacturing systems itself. Reinventing that wheel with atmanirbhar could be a longer journey. Instead if we spend now on building that capacity, I think it will in fact accelerate the local advanced manufacturing.
Raghu Armani : Last year I spent about 40% of my productive time in government compliances, digitisation. Now I am thinking of closing my small private limited company.
Anup Kale : To me looks like a welcome news because we are importing capital goods which will pave ways to boost local manufacturing. In the past Japan and Germany were the main sources for those equipments. I am betting big on Indian manufacturing in coming years. With increased exports we are already in top 15 of the world. Coming few years we may break into the top 10 list.
Thanks for the CTC but I politely disagree with your insights this time.
N.C : You can't fix such a trade imbalance unless you actually have compelling products and services to sell to China in the first place. The root cause. And doesn't India run a deficit with many other countries as well?
